In Through Ancient Eyes, Dr. Elke Close brings history to life through the stories of objects from the ancient world that are often overlooked: a statue, a mosaic, a peace of pottery, a humble oil lamp, or a fragment dredged from the sea.

Each short episode delves deeper into the stories behind these objects connecting you with the people, emotions, and ideas behind them.
Together we travel from the sanctuaries of Delphi to the villas of Pompeii, from shipwrecks off Euboea to forgotten corners of Greek museums.

The first episode focuses on one of Athens’ most interesting creations:
the glaux, the little owl-eyed cup: a playful drinking vessel that captured the wit and identity of classical Athens in two staring eyes..
