The Venus Pudica is a statue of Aphrodite from the The Venus Pudica is a statue of Aphrodite from the 2nd century AD in Parian marble, originally found at Baiae in Southern Italy. It formerly belonged to the collection of Lord Hope and was donated to the National Museum in Athens by M. Embeirikos in 1924.

The neck, head and right arm were restored by the sculptor Antonio Canova. Aphrodite is standing, nude except for a draped himation which she hold with her left hand. This Roman version of the Syracuse Aphrodite is a copy of the original dating to the 4th century BC.

The so-called mask of Agamemnon is a golden funera The so-called mask of Agamemnon is a golden funeral mask discovered at the ancient site of Mycenae by the famous German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann during his excavations of the site in 1876.

Found in grave V of circle A, Schliemann believed he had found the body of the mythological Greek leader Agamemnon who commanded the Greeks during the Trojan War. While it obviously belonged to an important leader of the Mycenaean community - other bodies found in the royal burial shaft had weapons and other rich objects with them indicating they were warriors and people of notable importance. The mask is made from one sheet of gold, heated and hammed against wood with the details being added afterwards with a sharp tool.

However, later research questioned Schliemann’s theory based on style and some have even argued the mask to be fake, added by Schliemann to make his dig even more impressive. Consensus today is however that is a genuine Mycenaean mask but dated to about 300 years before the Trojan War was thought to have taken place.

A bronze sstatue of the empress Julia Aquilia Seve A bronze sstatue of the empress Julia Aquilia Severa, dated to 221-222 AD, found at Sparta. The statue is made of a large number of separately cast parts. The woman wears a chiton and a himation and
will have had a crown on her head.

Originally, the coiffure which is characteristic of the Severan dynasty combined with the extensive damage attributed to damnatio memoriae, suggested that the figure depicted was to be identified with one of the leading female figures of the Severan dynasty who suffered this fate - Julia Mamaea, mother and co-empress of the emperor Alexander Severus, Plautilla, wife of the emperor Caracalla, or Annia Faustina, third wife of Elegabalus.

But it is now thought to be Julia Aquilia was the second and then the fourth and last wife of the emperor Elegabalus (AD 218-222). Her portrait is to be found on coins issued during her two brief marriages to the emperor. There is no evidence that Julia Aquilia Severa suffered damnatio memoriae. The poor condition of the statue is the result of the collapse of the building in which it was erected, caused by a fire, as it is clear from the excavation record.
