Hellenistic History
A Roman fresco showing two individuals preparing a A Roman fresco showing two individuals preparing a meal consisting of the carcass of a small calf or fawn. On their the right is a large silver container with handles shaped like goats' heads. Placed on a pillar on left is a silver tray with garlic and other food. A large wooden bowl rests next to the pillar on the floor.

This sort of scene from everyday life is rarely found in villa decoration. The fresco may have adorned a tavern rather than a home.

A female statuette, known as the 'Lady of Auxerre' A female statuette, known as the 'Lady of Auxerre', dated to 640-630 BC. Rediscovered in the early 20th century at the Auxerre museum, this work is one of the earliest korai (female figures) in Greek art. It is the best example of how Greek sculpture evolved in the 7th century BC, during the Orientalising period.

The attention paid to the head, the U-shaped face framed by thick hair and the tunie fitted at the waist with a thick belt are typical features of the Daedalic style (after the name of the mythical sculptor Daidalos).

The inside of the temple to Athena Lindia. The cor The inside of the temple to Athena Lindia. The core of the sanctuary of Athena Lindia was the temple to the goddess, built on the highest point of the rock of the acropolis. Worship of Athena possibly replaced an earlier cult of an unknown deity, in the cave opening directly under the temple.

The architectural remains belong to a temple built in the late 4th c. BC, after the destruction of the earlier temple by fire, in 392 BC. The temple is in the Doric order, amphiprostyle and comprises a pronaos, a cella and an opisthodomos.

The temple was constructed of local sandstone (poros), which was coated with stucco, as were the other buildings on the acropolis.

In the cella there was a low parapet, behind which stood the table for offerings and the statue of the goddess. Visible in the walls are grooves to receive wooden supports and nail holes for holding the revetments that covered the temple interior.

On either side of the doorway the List of Priests was probably placed, this was a very important inscription in which the names of the priests from 406 BC until 28 AD are written.

Marble statue of Artemis (or Diana) of the Rospigl Marble statue of Artemis (or Diana) of the Rospigliosi type, from the 2nd century, after a Greek original of around 200 BC.

This type of statue is known thanks to a large number of ancient copies, the most famous of which is housed in the Palazzo Rospigliosi in Rome (Italy).

It may belong to a group representing the combat between the gods and the giants, dedicated by Attalus I, king of Pergamun from 241 to 197 BC, on the Acropolis in Athens.
